Rough Ride

Day 7--Florida, Georgia, Tennessee

We got up early to head to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  For whatever reason, the drive today was SUPER long and there were a lot of stops at gas stations along the way.  It was a rough one.

The Smokies were beautiful and we pulled into our camping site with just enough daylight to get everything up.  We have this rooftop carrier that has been a lifesaver.  It fits all of the camping gear.  But it is a pain to load and unload.  We have to climb on top of the van and the straps are a beast (more tomorrow!)

And then...

In the dark, these spiders emerged that were HUGE.  They were daddy long legs, so not a poisonous species or anything, but they were still spiders nonetheless.  I got married solely for the purpose of having someone kill spiders for me.  And now I had to be mature and grown up about these huge spiders when all I wanted to do was scream and run around.  Luckily, Aunika was doing that for me.  She was in full-on panic mode.

I did get to see my first firefly though! What interesting little bugs.

We roasted hot dogs over the fire, ate some million dollar smores and called it a night.  I was exhausted.  Happily, so were the kids and we all slept pretty good for being surrounded by spiders and black bears.
