Roadblock

Day 22--Rhode Island, Massachusetts

Our day's plans were to go to Newport again and then head off to our campground on Cape Cod.  We woke up, ate breakfast and hit the road.  About 10 minutes in, one of the kids complained of a stomachache.  So we stopped off at Walgreens and then decided to take him to an Urgent Care because the problem had been getting worse of the course of a few days.

An hour later, the Urgent Care doctor wanted him to be checked out at the children's hospital in Providence in case it was something really serious.

We dropped off his mom and him and went to Wendy's.  Any minute, he'd be cleared and we would be on our way.

Nope.

So we found a city park for the kids to hang out in and play while we waited.

A few hours later, he was finally given the okay--the road trip diet was wrecking havoc on his already sensitive system--and at about 5:00 we were finally on our way.

We debated about dropping Newport from the agenda, but decided to go ahead with it anyway.  And I'm so glad we did.  I was feeling a little rattled by spending all day in Providence and I just needed a few minutes on a beach.

My beach.  Because this is where I'm going to have a summer cottage to retire to. :)

We also drove the mansion tour while the kids watched a movie in the van since they have zero cares about big houses.

We headed off to Cape Cod, where we set up our tents in the dark and literally dropped into our sleeping bags.

Hiccups can be expected when you have 11 people all traveling together and we have had a relatively smooth ride thus far.  We handled it well and we are still on track for a stellar last few days.
