Kite Flying
Day 11--Kill Devil Hill, NC
I woke up and decided I needed to get away for a little while. I haven't been by myself in 10 days! I went for a run but after two miles ended up barefoot on the beach. It was PERFECT weather and so peaceful. I walked back--after learning my lesson on Monday--and it was just the recharge I needed.
After breakfast, my family headed over to Jockey Ridge State Park to a kite festival we had seen online yesterday. Everyone else headed in different directions. Wade LOVES kites and this was right up his alley. We had to hike up a sand dune and they had all these kites flying. They even had some stunt kites doing a show. It was pretty neat, even if the kids thought it was dumb. Wade even got to fly a stunt kite.
There were a few 100 ft kites too.
We stayed and played for about 2 hours and then headed to get some lunch.
It's our 18th wedding anniversary today and so we stopped at a nice restaurant for lunch. Wade thought he had heard about it before but he hadn't. It turned out to be SO good.
After lunch, we went to the Wright Brother's Monument. It was so interesting. We didn't have a lot of time to hang around and read everything because they were closing, but we got to see where they took their first flight and see a replica of the plane.
Back home, we went hit the beach again at high tide and played there for an hour or so.
Another perfect day in paradise.
