Ferry Riding
Day 12--Kill Devil Hill, NC
It's Sunday! We got ourselves to the nearest church only to find that it was Stake Conference. Of course it was! So instead of an hour meeting, it was 2 hours long. And SOOOOOO long. I was ready to leave but we stuck it out.
After church we made some lunch and then headed out towards Orcacoke Island and Cape Hatteras. To get out to the island we had to take a car ferry, a first for both Wade and myself. We drove the car onto the boat and away we went.
The ferry had to take a pretty far off path because the water wasn't deep enough closer to land so the ride took an hour. We got out to the island, found an ice cream shop and hung there for a few minutes. Then drove to the second oldest operating lighthouse in the country. It was all a little underwhelming.
We had to get in line to catch the ferry back and we hit Father's Day traffic, so we had to wait for a while. Then another hour ride back to the mainland. We went and saw Cape Hatteras and then drove back to the beach house--an hour and a half away. Lila was being so naughty in the rental car--a five seater--and I was really worried about the ride to DC in the morning.
We had a late BBQ for the guys for Father's Day and then we all had to get ready to leave in the morning for the next leg!
