A Little Shed
Day 16--Maryland, Philadelphia, New York
Our first stop of the day was Gettysburg. They wanted a lot of money to get anything out of it that we just decided to find the spot where Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. It was in yet another cemetery and the kids were rolling their eyes.
I know how they feel because I would do the exact same thing to my own mother.
But, this is important stuff, so I dragged them through the cemetery again and we went and saw the spot that is so important to our nation's history.
Then we headed north some more, where I made Wade get off the freeway for a 20 minute detour to Hershey, PA for a free chocolate tour factory. Was it worth it? YES! But mainly just to say we did it. There's a whole theme park attached to the plant, but we just did the little tour. I am not even sorry about it.
After some lunch, we headed to our next stay at Sampson State Park on Lake Seneca. Both Heather and I rented a "cabin" for two nights on the lake. The cabin turned out to be a very small shed with just enough room to fit the five of us. The beds were just plywood with a very thin mattress thrown on top. We had to sleep in our sleeping bags, and since we didn't bring one for Wade, the girls had to make do with what we had in the way of blankets and one sleeping bag.
It was a very, very looooong night.
The park is beautiful and though we hit it a little early for the season, I can see how it would be a beautiful spot for people to spend a weekend or two.
