A Cloudy Day at the Beach is Better than No Day at the Beach

Day 4--Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida

It was a beautiful morning in New Orleans.  We got up early and hit Café Du Monde for their famous beignets.  They are fried dough (of course they are!) rolled in powdered sugar.  So good!  There was a lot of police activity going on down the street and Jackson Square wasn't open yet and there were a lot of weird people still hanging around from the night before, so we decided to head to Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, a historic cemetery in the Garden District.  I could have spent hours there, but the kids were less then thrilled with it.  Party Poopers.  There are over 7000 people buried in one city block!  Our official assessment of New Orleans was that we need to come back without the kids. :)

We booked a swamp tour earlier and headed out to the bayou.  Everyone was really excited about this! It was just like you would imagine--you ride around on a boat and some guy that sounds like he lives in Deep Louisiana tells you about the swamp and you catch about every third word.  We got to see some alligators and turtles.  And the highlight was actually holding a baby alligator!  It was really interesting and I learned a lot of new things.

We even saw a teacher from the kids' elementary school!  Utah connection!

After the swamp tour we needed to jet to the beach house in Panama City, FL.  It was a rainy drive to the coast, but we made it through Mississippi and Mobile, Alabama.  The beach house is so cute! We got settled in and changed and ran down to the beach to catch the sunset.  The sand here is so nice!  It's been cloudy, but for people who don't tolerate the sun much, it's been perfect weather.

Overnight, the most magnificent storm rolled through.  It just dumped water and the thunder and lightning was spectacular.

This is not a bad life to live for sure.
